Very nice, Phil!

Giving it sort of a Nakashima look is a great use of those slabs. How did you
finish it?

Subject: [oldtools] Walnut tabletop done!

I finally got done with my double walnut slab dining table top! It will sit on
top of a trestle base already made and in use. I'm sort of turning the tables on
my present table. (Heh heh).I used a mix of tools and techniques as always, but
there is a big representation of hand tools involved. For example, I inset the
bow ties with a chisel and mallet and cut the mortises for the breadboard ends
with same, plus a brace and bits at times.

The slabs came from a dead tree the Highway Dept. was removing, when a woman I
worked with at my day job at the time asked for the logs and the Highway Dept
folks said, "fine". (Imagine that!) She had the logs milled into slabs. She
mostly made stools and benches. She asked me to do some custom millwork on some
ot the walnut lumber and she gave me the two slabs for my efforts. Zowie.
