Hello All GG's!
Having been lurking on the porch for a little bit, I thought I'd finally
announce myself. I'm John Anderson, from Newtown, CT, and
have been happily mangling wood for about fifteen years!
My WWing began with a 1982 Shopsmith, and I have added
to my p*w*r t**l collection over the years. I also have an
(admitedly) meager collection of hand tools (2 #220s, 1 #5 in
desperate need of tuning, several crosscut & back saws,
and a few chisels).
Having just completed a one day seminar / woorkshop with
Wm. (Bill) Sayer (Precision Woodworking with Hand Tools), I'm
beginning to develop an appreciation for the abilities of these
tools - in the right, well-trained, hands of course. I also
learned that my assortment of planes is WAY too small, so
I'll be adding to it.
In terms of my shop, it's about 20 x 30 (1/2 of the cellar,
soon to be 2/3rd, then 3/4s !), in which there is a (soon to
be replaced) work bench, ShopSmith 510 w/ bandsaw,
Reliant 2hp dust collector, 6" floor standing jointer,
12" portable planer, stationary 6x48 belt / disk sander.
I also have about 12 feet of wood rack with various types of
hardwood on it, and an EBAC-250 powered dehumidification
kiln. We've just cut down two trees (one red, one white oak),
which will be quartersawn sometime in the next few weeks,
then dried in the kiln.
Anyway, that's me! Oh, for a paying job, I'm the Information
Systems Manager for my firm. Since I work with computers
all day long (and have, for the last 20 (yikes! years, when
at home, I prefer to be a luddite!
In the short time I've been a member of this list, I have learned
a great deal (like don't start a YB vs XXX discussion - just kidding! :)
best regards to all.
John Anderson
