As other denizens of this list have noted, if you are not a Galoot 
than we have to undertake a serious re-thinking of what a Galoot is. 
You fit the definition to a "T". Welcome. You'll find camaraderie, 
exchanges of information, jokes, get togethers, questions / answers, 
laughter, support in troubled times, and in general, simply the best 
bunch of people on the internet bar none.

Don't be afraid to volunteer your expertise if a question comes up, 
to ask a question if you are pondering something or to simply present 
one of those musings that typify a Galoot (such as... does anyone 
know when rubber was first used in tools? I recently  picked up an 
1870's patented mitre box that has rubber rollers).

And furthermore, please ping me off list as I have a small order for 
your blacksmithing skills.
