49939 "Kaelin, Gil" <gkaelin@n...> 1998‑09‑16 Bio
My attempt at describing how I came to be here...

Moved out west from New York about 8 years ago, in moving my things with
parents things, acquired a few tools (He really said "just take them"). Kept
everything in the garage for a while, minimal "leisure" time available.

Built what will suffice for a workbench, an 8 foot long 33 inch wide
behemoth with 4x4 legs, and declared myself a carpenter. Acquired more
electron fed tool type machines and started digging through those boxes to
find some screwdrivers...

Found a Stanley "Bailey" No. 6 plane (Type 11, I'm told) in nearly new
condition. Had no idea how to use it , but it sure was neat looking. Hmmm...
contacted a few net folks to find out everything I could about it, watched
the old tool guy on TV to find out how (sort of) to use it. I think once i
figure out how to go scary sharp on it, the Porter Cable gets sold.

Built kitchen table, did not use electron fed tools. Learned several
lessons: number 1: only use MORTISING chisels for mortising, the other ones
bend after a while.
number 2: The nice thing about ash is that its so hard, the bad thing about
ash...
number 3: I need more real tools.

Bought "The Toolbox Book", oh lord, please let me build one of these.
Dig thru boxes again, find a Yankee 2101 10 inch brace and around 18
bits...(bits by the way are Swan Co. (?) )
