43369 Randall C. Stout <rcs1@s...> 1998‑05‑17 Bio: I* Galoot
Dear Gentle Galoots:

After lurking for too long, I thought I should formally check in. I
apologize for the double entendre in the title, but couldn't resist. My
day time job lets me work with some nice, but very small tools.
Titanium, stainless and diamond edged. I earn my tool money doing
surgery on eyes, hence the the I( eye) galoot! As you might imagine,
this is somewhat fiddly work, with not much tolerance for error, so
sometimes I just come home, put a chunk of scrap in the vise and make a
pile of shavings. It is soothing somehow.

I grew up around tools with my father a finish carpenter and later a
contractor. Is often the case however, I drifted away from that as I
became involved in school(lots of school) and starting a career. About 5
years ago my dad sent me his 5 1/2 C, and rest is history, as they say.
I admit to a weakness for visually intricate tools, with a special
fondness for iron levels. I also like Millers Falls items, as a bit of
couterpoint to the dominant Stanley trend.

If I may add one small professional note, please wear safety glasses! I
spend too much time trying to salvage eyes with various bits of metal
and other debris stuck to and into them.

I have really enjoyed lurking on the porch, and have had some very nice
interactions with some of the Galoots. This is a remarkable community.
If I find a small way in which I can contribute, I will be happy and
proud to do so.

Randy Stout
