After one post on topic I thought I do what the list charter suggests and
introduce myself.
For a day job I'm an environmental engineer working in the area of water
quality and stormwater management here in Raleigh, NC. And that's enough
for the boring stuff...
For enjoyment, relaxation, few extra bucks, to furnish the home, and to
keep the local medic stocked in Izods, I build furniture, buildings,
boats, and pukey duck stuff. About four years ago I was visited one
night, just before I was to start a dressing table for the wife, by St.
Norris. He informed me that I was to go forth to shop in the morning
under the banner of the Stanley Rule and Level Co. and conquer that
project without the help of the herectical Carolina Power and Light.
I did so, and thus was born another Neandersoul. (OK, I still have plenty
of power tools, but I don't care for them, and haven't spent any moolah
on them in quit a while)
Ok, with that out of my system... I do mostly hand work on the
furniture, using oldtools aquired locally, through the net dealers, at
MWTCA meetings, and "oldtools" from LN. Finally completed a modern
version of the treadle lathe.
Favorite tool:
Most used oldtool: LN low angle block tied with a really beat up,
cracked #40 scrub or maybe that old, almost
unreadable folding rule
Newest oldtool: handforged, homemade froe, local maker, date appox. 1938
Old tools desired: A new, old #40. Some _really_ good bench chisels, IT
dovetail saw, and possibly an old panel raiser, or #289
Next project: Get moved into new home and build new shop (Anyone want to
come over and do a timber frame?)
Glad to meet ya,
Scot, who still has at least most of all 10 fingers, Thomas
