28961 Rodgers Charles <rodgersc@b...> 1997‑10‑21 Bio - repeat
GGs:
I was sure I sent a bio when I first signed on, but it doesn't show in the
archives. I'll keep it short.
Typical middle USofAmerica (Joplin, Mo.)childhood. JHS shop taught me a
little, too bad I don't remember it - made a "coffee table" out of solid
4/4 walnut. Remember my dad complaining about the $1.50 lumber charge. He
was happy when I got it home & he saw it. Moved to Sacramento, CA at age
13. WOW!!! Wore shoes all year-round! HS, Jr College, joined the Navy two
weeks before I got a draft notice. They sent me to school & taught me Morse
code, electronics theory, & radio repair. Told me that was all I needed to
be able to communicate. Wound up doing 22 years. San Diego (school),
Philippines, VietNam (with 3rd MarDiv as a radio operator), Spain (picked up
the SWMBO), San Diego (school, ship, school), Navy even sent me to college
in San Diego, Guam, Italy, Florida (ship), Spain. Retired Jan 1986. Son
(28y/o), daughter (deceased 1993 at 20), still same SWMBO 29 years &
counting.
Always tinkered around wood, but just in last year got interested in old
tools. Found the list about 6 mos ago and have learned more in these 6 mos
than I ever did or could have otherwise.
I can't adequately express my gratitude to the open, friendly atmosphere on
the porch and the wealth of knowledge all you porch-sitters are so willing
to share. I only hope I can contribute some day.
