It’s a donkey’s ear.  I have a near identical one under a bench awaiting a bit
of fettling of the joint between the screw and the moveable jaw.   Seems to be
missing summat..   I wonderd if it was made up for a particular case, but the
(apparent) 45 degree slope of the threaded jaw is pretty conclusive to my mind.
The 2 witness holes t screws? on the right show where the fixed jaw would have
been, and I cannot account for the absence of the face slope of the moving jaw.
Either a made up (sacrificial) part now lost, or it split and was discarded, or,
as I hinted, someone had a need for something special and adapted it.
