165160 "James Amrine Jr." <jamrine@a...> 2006‑11‑27 Updated BIO
It appears that it has been about 18 months since my initial bio post,
and despite an infrequency in posting, I have been a regular eager
reader here.

It is funny how many things can change in such a relatively short time.
As a new Galoot at that time, I was excited about my Type 11 Bailey
bench planes; they've since been sold to make way for first, a couple of
Veritas Bevel-Up planes, and more recently for some nice old wooden
planes. I also mentioned being from the same town where John Walter's
shop is. Now I am from the same town where John's shop *was*. A couple
of 30 year floods in a 9 month period have chased several longtime
merchants from Marietta, Ohio's historic Front Street. I alluded to
plans to build a treadle lathe. That lathe has been built, and
disassembled and replaced by a nice 30's Craftsman lathe.

Anyway, I have now reached the ripe old age of 30, and am still married
to my lovely wife Constance. Our son Jed is now almost 2-1/2 and enjoys
hammering on the sawhorse in the shop and carrying shavings around. His
little sister is on the way in March.

In the past year, I have managed to build a few items to further outfit
my shop. I also built my son's first "big boy" bed. It is a Shaker
low-post affair adapted to a crib-sized mattress. In January, I
attended the Working Wood in the 18th Century Conference in Williamsburg
and have since become very interested in Windsor chairs, although, I am
miles from being ready to take on a chair on my own. Fortunately,
fellow porch-dweller Jim Crammond and I have created a Galoot faction
within our local woodworking club and have spent the last 6 months or so
of our monthly meetings on the subject of Windsors. We built a shaving
horse, and even had some adzes custom made by a blacksmith in North
Carolina. I am still trying to hunt down all the necessary tools for
this area. Fortunately, Lee Valley is coming to the plate big time for
the chairmaking crowd. I am impressed with their efforts so far. I
will also be attending this coming January's 17th Century Woodworking
Conference in Williamsburg.

-Jamey Amrine, and still a Buckeye here in Ann Arbor.
