144237 Chris Thompson <chris@c...> 2005‑04‑02 Greetings.
Greetings Galoots, Neanderthals, and assorted misfits:

I'm what you would call a woodworking wannabe. I've got a basement full of
electron fed tools that have almost never been used.

About a year ago I stumbled onto the Neanderthal forum over at
sawmillcreek.org. Something in the obsessive compulsive part of my brain
(some would say that's the whole bundle) clicked. An ill advised #4
purchase off ebay led to some research. Garret Hack books, supertools.com,
Bailey type studies.

And so now I bottom feed on ebay, scouting for the mislabeled, the
misspelled, the things that have escaped the view of the thundering ebay
hordes.

I've got more low knob stanley rust than anyone needs.

An almost perfect Ohio Tool #7 (I think at this point I'm supposed to let
Jeff know that's a Jointer) for $10 because the owner posted it as a SAVAGE
plane, the name of a previous owner stamped into the otherwise unlabeled iron.

I got two Disston 10" back saws for $10 because the seller posted them as
"OISSTON?"

And sadly, I just missed a Keen Kutter K8 (That's a stanley bedrock
rebranded Jointer plane, Jeff) for $20 because the mad hordes found it
right at the last minute, realized the "FOR PARTS" was bogus since all that
was wrong was a cracked tote, and outbid me up near $90 within the last 15
seconds.

So, the other day, through some twist of fate I stumbled on Tom Price's
Galoot's Progress page. I read the FAQ about the Galoots. And one thought
went through my head.

"These are my people."

So, here I am. In the very early stages of sliding headfirst down the
slippery slope. I've been lurking for a few days to get the feel for the
content, and I can tell I'm home.
