-237 Tim Fuss <timfuss@k...> 1970‑01‑01 bio

Greetings Galoots

It's my brother's fault. Really. You know him as Paul Fuss. He dragged
me here kicking and screaming (where do I plug it in?) Just kidding,
Paul.

Actually, this accumulating / collecting / using of old stuff has been
in my blood for quite a while. It started with old cameras, then
records, then old radios, tubed audio gear, vintage guitars, and now old
tools! No, I don't live in a warehouse (just an old house)! I've thinned
out each category as my interests changed - keeping the best and most
useful as I go. I have to admit a preference for well made things,
before "price points", "TQM", "cost effecive" and other bean counter
inventions took their toll. Was I born in the wrong era?

For the past couple of years, I've wanted to get started in woodworking,
but was intimidated by the cost, size and sheer power of Norm style
tools. Add to that a complete lack of knowledge or technique and you've
got a perfect receipe for procrastination. With help from my brother,
OldTools, and some flea market finds, I finally got a foot in the door.
That means I only have a little woodworking experience so far. It's a
good thing that I enjoy learning new skills. Of course, this is a whole
new batch of trivia to fill up yet another corner of my brain. Paul says
that mental clutter is a bad thing and that I should send him all of my
tools right away (but I know he's no doctor - even if he sorta looked
like one on TV once).

By day, I'm a camera design engineer at Eastman kodak. I guess that
helps explain my interest in camera collecting and photography (or vice
versa). Here's my entry in the Neanderthal Photography Sweepstakes: I'm
currently shooting with a c.1895 Rochester Optical 8x10 view camera.

I'm looking forward to learning from the group. Maybe even enough to
contribute. Do I have time for a quick gloat? Thanks. How about a
Stanley #140 for $5? Not really crispy (rust, flaking nickel), but I'm
looking forward to putting it to use.

lotsa lines to say Hi!
